Very true Trev. The rates of pay can be higher or lower than this but it does depend on the town (different pay in different resorts!), what the job is and your own experience.

The important point to make is that getting work in the middle of the high season is very hard in the best years and with the island like the rest of the world suffering from the recession it would be important to make considerations before you come and commit to a move that you may go several months (or longer) without finding work. We suggest that you consider coming on a finding trip before to see if you are able to line up a job beforehand rather than making the move, burning through money and then having to go home. Don't get me wrong I'm not predicting doom and gloom I just like people to be realistic that the competition for bar work out here is very high!

Check out www.lanzaroterelocation.co.uk for some more helpful pointers! Feel free to drop me a PM or email if you want some more help as well!

Good Luck!
Phil

Reading through various posts on this forum I'm struck by how many people are being told they have virtually no chance whatsoever of getting work in Lanzarote. We were in PDC last week and spoke to an Irish barmaid who has been there 11 months and is on her third job. She moved from the other two until she found one she really liked. She told us she had no problem finding work. She just went in everywhere leaving her phone number until someone called her back.
Anyway I have a question. What would you say is the best time of year to go to Lanzarote looking for barwork or is there a best time of year? Thanks!

Well it is definitely better to come out here before the season starts as bar owners generally know how many staff they may require and so plan accordingly. It is always tough to find work and certainly not possible without walking a good few kms ... good walking shoes ... photo & CV ... smile ... usually enough to get you started here. But don't bank on finding work especially not straight away and keep enough money to see you through a while whilst you are looking ... remember those that have lived here a while have seen people come and go!

Best of Luck!
Phil
