For me it would be easy, Dorset. I do like Lanza, as some know I've only just come back from there but live there - no. The scenery is novel but bland, PDC is about to take on club 18-30 and PB is becoming over developed and will soon loose its charm. With good acommodation and sunshine for a couple of weeks the experience is superb but I would need need to be active and realise that most people who live there don't have a 'bum-bag' stuffed with case they don't mind spending. I also need a bit of extra pampering at my age so a heated pool is a must there as the sea is always freezing. My aim a little later in life is to rent through the winter and come home for our spring / summer time. I expect Lanza will be one of the places but I prefer my islands a little more green such as Menorca. |

I saw it as well but wasn't impressed with the places featured. The bungalow in Matagorda was too small and it isn't my favourite bit of the island anyway and the villa in PB was very expensive and in the middle of further development. I agree totally with Roy, not the place to spend your retirement.:tft But the thing that got me most was the fact that the prog was advertised as a widow looking for a cottage in Cornwall or a home in Fuerteventura!Someone would seem to have put the wrong tape in the machine.:blush |

| I may be completely wrong here but I feel the Island is flooded with average villas for rent, particularly PB and looks like it will get worse. Again I have little experience but I would imagine filling the calendar up with punters would be or soon will be a big problem. To our advantage competition may knock the prices down. Buying luxury seems the way to go, unfortunately out of my league, to buy anything less I feel would be a bad idea. If you disagree say so, I've been called a mug before. |

| I don't think the program did PB any favors, when it said " there will be building work going on in Playa Blanca for the next 4 years " ? I was also amazed at the price of a 2 bedded bungalow in Matagorda. Costa Teguise I love, designed by Cesar Manrique, I feel it isn't as developed as PB or PDC, it does have building work going on, but not to the same extent as the other resorts. Given the chance I would love to spend some of my retirement there. Roy Menorca is my sisters favorite place, but I haven't been, just a pity it's closed in Winter.

You should try it Peggy. Late September, villa or hotel in the Cala Galdana area. |

I don't think you are wrong at all Roy, :agree - totally infact - I just would not pay the silly prices suggested for a week's rental. And I can't see many others doing it either, the whole point of a villa is the privacy, peace and seclusion it offers you. None of which are going to apply to PB at the present time. For the prices stated (especially when you consider the silly flight prices nowadays) you could go to a more glamourous destination. And that seems to be the trend. PS I too am very fond of Menorca. Lovely island:kiss |

| I struggle with the ethics sometimes as well. How many of us Brits would admit to complaining about foreigners settling in the UK and forming communities without making any attempt to integrate? "They can't even speak the language" we say amongst other things. All too often these people are all to prepared to abandon there principles given the opportunity to relocate themselves, worse, they do exactly the same in other countries forming British communities many of which don't speak a word of the local language. The Costa's has to be the biggest example and what a dump that has become. When in Rome I say. That's not a slurr on all ex-pats, many blend into the local society and to those I say good luck. I wonder what the flood of Euros from the Brit's, German and Dutch etc has had on the local economy and the ability of young Lanza's to get hold of a property. Hypocrite you murmur, well I don't know, I have just returned from a private villa break in Lanza and these thoughts did come to mind. I just don't have enough info to form an opinion. Strange how people who live a simple life yearn to become part of the technologically developed world, once they get there they yearn for the simple life again. Do I need to go into exile after posting this? |

| No need to go into exile Roy. I'd written something similar, then thought twice about it.:giggle I think we get seduced by the sun and laid back atmosphere. I love Lanzarote, but there are other places I love just as much.
