Thomas Cook day to night flight times change

Hi

Has anybody just had their day flights from Lanzarote to England changed to night flights?

We booked with Thomas Cook way back in December to holiday in April, and we specifically chose 24th April 2008 as this was a day flight going both ways.

We have now just received a letter from Thomas Cook stating that the flight times back to Gatwick have been changed from departure at 13.35 arriving back in Gatwick at 17.25 to 21.35 departure arriving in Gatwick at 1.30! :omg

Yes, I know it will give us an extra half day in Lanzarote, but that's not the point. It will incur extra expense in food, drink and car hire; we are going to have to pay for an extra days parking at the airport and also lose the whole of Friday which should have been a work day. :trtrm
I've emailed Thomas Cook and asked for a discount, as it's generally accepted that day flights cost more, and we have now been bumped to the lager lout express. I'm not holding my breath.

I've visited several different flight websites and all the return flights seem to be this time or an hour later. Has Lanzarote gone the Greek route of mostly night flights, because if it has it'll be another nail in its tourist trade coffin. We were prepared to pay what could have been the price of a long haul holiday to get to Lanzarote on day flights but not for "red eye flights".

We so love going to Lanzarote but it seems as if "they" are conspiring to ensure that we don't. :pbat

Anne, maybe your earlier flight wasn't fully booked and they have cancelled it and shifted all passengers on to one plane. That happened to us coming back from Cyprus once, they seem to do just as they like without a thought to passenger inconvenience.

Night flight

Hi girls,

Well, whatever their reasons, it's bl***y annoying! Holiday companies seem to be able to get away with murder don't they?
I'll give Tracey's suggestion a go, and let you know how I get on. If that doesn't work, I'll continue to press for a discount but that'll probably be me :bnghd plus them going :fool

Whatever happens, we won't let it spoil the holiday, that's for sure!

Be careful out there today, it's wild and windy!

Regards

Anne

I don't mind being delayed on the homeward bound journey, but ,I do mind when I'm going out. We once got delayed for 6 hours, and missed a whole afternoons sunbathing.:)

Delays

I know what you mean, we had a 24 hour delay going on a Cuba holiday, then on the way back, we were seated in the middle of the plane. This section's electrics had failed, which meant we had no lights to read by, no film to watch or radio to listen to and couldn't adjust the air or call for the stewardess- for the whole flight, lovely. :srs
No luck with the website flights, by the way. The only alternative on offer was an hour later! :cry

Oh that makes it even worse! :trtrm

I've had a response from Thomas Cook that simply says that all flights are subject to alteration, and as it doesn't involve a 12 hour difference they won't be offering any compensation.:cry I'll give it another go, as I wasn't asking for compensation, simply the difference in cost from a day flight to a night flight. Should ask for administration charges as well, as if you change anything with them they immediately whack you for extra dosh, bloodsuckers:cherry

Still, there's worse things happen at sea.

No discount!

Well, surprise, surprise, have had reply from Thomas Cook and we won't be getting any discount :cry

Even tried to extend to a ten day holiday; they had a day flight for that return, but no availability in the hotel.:sosad

C'est la vie!

Well chaps, just returned from Lanzarote. Had a great time except:-

Had a seven hour delay at Gatwick and a three hour delay at Arrecife. Both times Thomas Cook blamed technical problems, surprise, surprise! We were given the princely sum of £7.00 each in vouchers for the departure delay. As you can imagine, it didn't go very far. It seemed as if all the Thomas Cook flights last night to England were delayed. Not so Easyjet. Also, our rep at Arrecife stated that the reason the original flight time for the return was altered, was that from 1st May their summer schedule kicks in and that means a night flight. Following that logic, when I booked in December they had no intention of honouring the original day flight time! :angry
This is the first time we've used this holiday company, and if I can at all help it, will be the last!

Welcome back Anne, I'm glad you had a good time.
The only time we've been delayed was with Thomas Cook, 6 hours in Manchester, we got two £3 vouchers, but as you so rightly said it doesn't go very far maybe a cuppa if you're lucky.

I'm sorry Tracey I'd have to disagree with you. I've never found them cheaper at all. :nono

I checked the prices of flights for xmas for 8 months and have all the prices written down,, so in this case Keith I can tell you they were the cheapest out of 8 companies throughout the year for xmas flights.. Can't say at any other time cos I don't look. I do know my Jet2 flights were ridiculously cheap.. £180 in school holidays when I booked,, yet to see what the flight is like though!!

Sorry Tracey I wasn't having a pop at you it's just that I've never found them cheapest from Birmingham.
I am sure your figures are correct and I have no reason to doubt you. :bisous
