A personal perspective

This is quite an interesting view of 'current day Lanza' received from a friend:

That's an interesting little insight into the mind of a long term resident.
I can see that as a long term resident, the constant turn over of tourists must be somewhat irksome, but then again this person was once a tourist who discovered Lanzarote and chose to live permanantly on a holiday island, so he should think twice before criticising tourists, especially when (from what I can gather) he makes his living out of them.

I can see his point though !

Well he clearly isn't happy with the weather but then again none of us are .............Global warming is hitting every nation - there were thousands killed in the Tsunami and the hurricane that hit New Orleans. Lanzarote actually came out of Delta without loss of life and as he says himself, pretty inscathed.

He has seen big changes in lanzarote since he moved there and, as he says, largely not for the better, but this goes back to an earlier discussion on another thread about development and "British-isation" .......progress IS a double edged sword...

Maybe if he came "home" for a year he would realise that Britain has changed a lot since 1976 too, and not for the better either....:sad

whatever

and whenever you read a personal report, be it about a hotel, restuarant or anything else, there will always be conflicting results.. :rolleyes

it is of course upsetting for us "brits" to see other brits coming to the island and behaving less than well..............

we feel it is a reflection on us......... but of course the islanders are hopefully not going to judge us by this.....

as for the storm that night was the most terrifying night I have ever known in my life............ but the morning after, as we were clearing up the damage we were just glad it wasnt much worse.......... it could have been......... I was amazed that there was no loss of life on Lanzarote..........

Im sure a lot has been learnt from the experience, some people received help from neighbours, friends and even by people they didnt know...........

looking at the news and reading of what happens elsewhere with the weather, I think we got off lightly...........

I bet it was terrifying for you all. A few years ago in October, we had some really strong winds and lost alot of our roof, so I do realise how scary it is. Just pleased that all are ok.
