Cool Asssitance please re local mobile Internet access ...

Greetings one and all ... bit of forward planning here for our next holiday in Lanzarote !

I know that here in the UK you can get mobile internet access in the form of a USB stick for the laptops from a number of the UK based mobile phone service providers for 1 month contracts. I think that based on my previous experiences that buying one of these 'deals' locally in Lanzarote would prove much more cost effective than using one suplied by a UK based provider were you then have to pay additional and very high roaming charges.

I've tried to contact Movistar/Telephonica, Vodafone ES, Amena/Orange and Yoigo directly from here in the UK to find out about avialability and prices etc for the 1 month mobile broadband deals but can't seem to get any sort of response from any of them.

Does anyone in the Canaries have any experience of this type of b'band deal/use ??? ... or, and here is the real cheeky bit ... would any kind soul be prepared to try and find out for me ... PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE ???!! It really would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in anticipation of your assistance.

JD

Never tried it myself.

Thats a lot isn't it,, especially with the exchange rate! Wonder why its so much,, that would be 6 months worth here!!! When we stayed in Las Brisas it was 10 euros a week for their wireless...

I'm thinking along similar lines - I used wireless internet on the Spanish mainland last year which was ideal for me - anyone know anywhere else (accommodation wise, or similar ...) that offer free/value Wi-Fi access .. I mean as well as Las Brisas (thanks for that one!) ...? McDonalds in the UK offer free access, but I don't know about those on Lanzarote ...?

Thanks for helping, anyone that can! :-)

What area are you looking to stay?

There are a few cafes etc that do wi-fi, they just
seem to like you to buy a drink or two which is
not too unfair to be honest...

Regarding the Airport set up, I know someone who
used it and was well impressed, however with the
exchange rates it does look dear.

Internet out here is NOT cheap, we pay 45e a month
for ADSL 3mb, unlike the UK there is not many
firms failing over to do deals and discounts

cheers
Keith
