To book or not to book (Ferry)

Im using the ferry to travel to Fuerteventura where im staying for a few days during my Lanzarote trip. Will be coming out 18th October. Would it be better to pre book a ferry ticket or would it be ok to buy on the day at the ferry terminal? Also which is cheaper Armas or Olsen?

Dont want to mess around with long queues or take a chance on no tickets being available. Thanks

I've never booked to be honest, but if you're going first or last thing it might make sense.

The Armas ferry is cheaper, but also slower than the Olsen one.

Just a quick caveat re Fuerteventura side trips from Lanza. Back in the early 1990s, when we stayed at a Playa Blanca that's sadly now pretty much beyond recall, we sometimes took the Bougainvillae car ferry from the harbour to Fuerteventura. It made for a great day out: drive on, drive off, potter about the island, then drive back on again for the sailing home to Playa Blanca.

At that time there was no restriction by any car hire company of which we were aware -- and we used several -- on taking your hire car off Lanzarote.

Ten years later, however -- that is, from around 2000 -- we noticed that hirers were specifically prohibiting off-island use of their vehicles. So if you wanted a day trip to Fuerteventura, or if you were intending to go there for a few days, then you had but one option:

Travel as a foot passenger, and then hire a car in Fuerteventura.

Obviously, this made no financial sense to folks like us, because we would effectively have finished up with two rental cars simultaneously, the one in Lanza gathering dust whilst the one in Fuerteventura was in use.

I don't know whether the off-island hire restriction has been eased, but if it hasn't, then taking a hire car to Fuerteventura has the potential to turn into a major financial disaster: the insurance won't cover the car, driver or passengers.

I do know Plus Car are quite happy for you to take cars over to Fuerte - in fact they have an office there in case of any problems.
