Moving to Lanzarote from mainland Spain

Hi everyone.

We are thinking of moving to Lanzarote from the Costa Blanca area of mainland Spain in about two years' time.

We have enjoyed our time here but have found the winter night time temperatures have become colder and are looking for a warmer climate during the winter months. I think you can call it aclimatisation! Our night temperature has gone down to zero this winter, but is usually around 6\8 degrees. What are the night time temperatures in Lanzarote generally between November and March?

Can anyone advise re. healthcare in Lanzarote. As we are under the age of 65, we have private healthcare here. However, there are rumours that the authorities in this area are going to start a National Health Care type cover for early retirees, paying approx. 270 euros per quarter each, which would entitle people to full cover. Is there any similar type of cover in Lanzarote?
Also, is there a private Hospital in Lanzarote and who is it run by?

Last question! Here the electricity is supplied by Iberdrola, it is quite expensive but obviously we have electric heaters on at night during the winter, which can add quite a bit to the winter bills. We would be interested to know if electricity is considered to be expensive in Lanzarote and, for that matter, the water costs. Also, do you need heating at night?

Sorry to ask so many questions but I would be grateful for any advice, thank you!

Advice on moving to Lanzarote

Thanks Trev for your reply and help.

The weather seems to be much warmer in the winter than here!

If anyone else could advise re. healthcare in Lanzarote, I would be grateful.

My husband plays in a rock band here locally, what is the music scene like down there?

I would really recommend you take a look at the website http://www.lanzaroterelocation.co.uk for some good clear advice about what the island can offer you with regards healthcare amongst many other things!
As in most of Spain the healthcare here is fantastic and the hospital has gone through several renovations over the past 5 years and has some great facilities I hope that none of us ever need! In PDC and PB there are new centro de saluds (health centres) and so again great facilities we hope none of us ever need as well (except for my pregnant wife and the mid-husband is very helpful!).

Feel free to drop me a PM or email if you want any more help!
Cheers
Phil

Moving to Lanzarote

Again thanks Phil, my husband had a brain haemorage a few years ago and so the health situation is very important as you can imagine.

Will have a look at the website you mentioned, thanks again.

And of course if you don't find the answers you are looking for then do just ask!

Good luck!
