| I am visiting Puerto Del Carmen in April 2009.This is my first visit and I wondered if anyone could recommend any traditional restaurants in the area. I always like to try the local restaurants and tend to keep away from the 'English' ones. Thanks |

| Well I always struggle how to reply when the words ‘traditional’ or ‘authentic’ are used. Traditional and authentic doesn’t necessarily mean nice or good quality and whilst there are plenty of restaurants serving authentic dishes there are very few truly authentic Canarian restaurants. So that doesn’t sound great but I’m just being a bit pedantic regarding the meaning of ‘traditional’ it shouldn’t put you off too much there’s loads of decent to good restaurants in PDC and many have a canarian or at least Spanish ambiance and you won’t have any problems if you want to try a selection and avoid English food. English food is generally only served in English bars in any case so easily avoided if you choose so. The old town is generally regarded as the best selection of decent restaurants, many harbourside restaurants specialising in fish but also try some of the ones a little away from the harbour. There’s also a good cosmopolitan choice so you don’t have to eat Spanish type food every night. My personal recommendations La Longa – tapas and a la carte / fish. The large square building on the harbour between the church and lifeboat. Casa Roja – Spanish / canarian. Square red building directly next to the harbour where the small boats are. Il Poril or El Sardinero – Spanish / Canarian / fish. Opposite the harbourside close by the playground and boules. Magnolia – Spanish / Continental. Just a few yards away from Biosfera towards old town on right – cracking flambees !!!! La Canada, Calle Cesar Manrique just up from Centro Atlantico – Spanish / canarian. This is a little more formal and pricy but very good. La Casa del Parmigiana Italian – ok hardly traditional Canarian and I’m no fan of Italian food but this is a great restaurant, little more pricy than some others. For ‘traditional’ dishes look for Pappas Arrugadas, delicious small potatoes in skin with spicy sauces. Some restaurants sell Kid (goat) and rabbit. Zarzuella and Sancocho are Spanish fish stews but a little harder to find and local cheeses are excellent and often found as a starter or tapas http://www.lanzarote.com/gastronomy/ ole
