How will......

the Euro rate effect your holiday plans for this year?

Will you go to Lanza.as normal, elsewhere outside the euro zone or stop in the UK?

Will you cut back on things at home in order to have your holiday as usual or will you forgo it this year?

Tough times ahead this year-somethings gotta give!

I am off to Lanza for a week in June but no plans for later, normally got a couple booked by now-playing this one by ear.

We are not going anywhere in the summer,, hoping to go back at christmas but have to see what happens... It was so expensive this christmas with the terrible exchange rate.. Spoils the holiday when you spend the whole time saying "HOW MUCH" :fool

What a great thread!

The exchange rate is a tough one for the local businesses, their prices don't change in line with the rate, they have to buy supplies and take their sales in euros. Many of them have commented that the tourists were expecting them to cut their prices to reflect the poor rate.

The rate is only good if you're heading back to the UK, if anyone has been considering moving back, now would be a good time to cash in and go!

Recent reports show that the last thing to go from a personal budget in times of crisis is the holiday, lets hope that everyone can still afford at least one break this year and that they spend it in the place they love most......Lanzarote!

Last year I was very greedy with holidays, this year we did plan on going to Lanzarote, but, now off to France for 3 weeks as it's going to cost half of what it would in Lanza.
Then again there's always later on in the year...............:giggle :mus

As Tracey said I found it much more expensive at New Year - John Smith's at four quid a pint, God I had to have a pint less each day!!! Still I'm booked up for May and probably going again in Oct/Nov. One advantage of being on your own I suppose, you don't have to worry about others

From posts on other Lanzarote forums it seems that local bars/businesses have put their prices up! I know the rate is bad but it shouldn't make an enormous difference in spending money, but it seems that it is. I know on my last visit we found things had increased dramatically.

Probably as things are so quiet they are trying to cut their losses. But I think the clever ones will put prices down and go for small profit and big turnover-makes sense to me anyway.

Bruce-however did you cope without your full daily ration? :rofl

It isn't he spending money, it's the whole package for me. The less I spend on accommodation and travel, the more I have to spend.:sun

Hi to all you Lanza luvvers

I havent been on this site for a while (we moved back to the UK )
has been 18 months now and I do still miss it but have started to read the posts again...........

the £ versus the € has caused no end of problems.....

just hope you all keep your chins us and the smiles going

I hope to come out this year, flights are very expensive , just have to hope that there will be last minute offers on....

instead of going all inclusive we are going to try and put one together but even with the private rentals there are no "offers" going for the summer to entice brits out to Lanza ........... of course unless you know better ??

take care all

Terri

The 'credit crunch' has been kind to me with my BOE tracker -0.12 so I'll be back over in a few weeks.

Not such good news with exchange rates though.

Its not just the increasing prices and the exchange rate it's the reducing confidence to go out and spend money in these unsure times.
We're not planning anythng at the moment though Mrs Ole did mention that we should be looking to for a week in May but I'm not sure it'll be Lanzarote.
I've already cancelled one holiday this year due to the exchange rates !
Ole

We still come out to Lanzarote regularly but rather than eating out once or twice a day we now eat far more at the villa. Restaurant prices seem so much higher with the weaker pound.

Also many of the retired folk who come out here will find that their savings income has been absolutely hammered by the falling interest rates.

Anyone who has stockmarket linked investments or pensions will have seen them plummet in value.

Not good for confidence ...... not good for spending.

I'm sure the local businesses are noticing a fall. :sad

I think things will get cheaper once less brits travel over, pubs/clubs restaruants will be trying to lure people in with special offer's so for you who live there it will be cheaper in time

I can also travel to watch the gunners for much less now its handy for me :)
